Because it is written in the mormon holy book , the book of mormon.

Mormons believe that the book of mormon is the most accurate and see it as more holy than the Holy Bible. They reverent that Joe smith all right. If joe said it, then mormons believe it because after all, holy joe saw God and was visited by an angel.

And he had caused the CURSING to come upon them yea, even a sore CURSING because of their iniquity For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint: wherefore as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a SKIN of BLACKNESS to come upon them (2 Nephi 5 :21)

Because that's what their scriptures teach and their leaders have taught.

I don't understand why some Mormon defenders here can't simply admit this. It isn't a big secret. It is clearly documented in Mormon scriptures and in teachings from Mormon leaders. It just is what it is.

No, it wasn't "tattoos". No, the curse wasn't "separation from God". The curse was black skin. That isn't just my interpretation - that is the interpretation of most of the church's "general authorities" throughout the church's history.

That wasn't just the Mormons, it was standard mainstream American doctrine that Ham was black and God cursed his race. The only difference is Mormons kept this official until the 1970s.

A curse is a judgement upon an individual or group of individuals. God makes judgements to discipline his children. Ultimately, God wants to teach his children to be righteous, and part of that instruction is to learn the natural consequences of wickedness. As children, we can either rebel against God, or humble ourselves. We can "kick against the pricks" or we can go where God directs us. As members of the LDS church, we consider ourselves to be part of God's tender plant, and know that he will prune us. The church has also received the judgements of God from time to time.

We also believe in a pre-mortal existence or spirit world, from which our spirits enter into this world. Although it has never been established doctrine, some members have speculated or assumed that those born unto blacks were black because of the judgements of God.

The ban on black men entering into the priesthood was only officially lifted in 1978 (first link below):

1908 - Joseph F. Smith Changes His Position Relative to Blacks: Joseph F. Smith abandons his former position on Elijah Abel’s status [ordination] and now claims that Joseph Smith declared Abel’s ordination “null and void.” (Council Minutes, 26 August, as quoted in Neither White nor Black, Signature Books, pg. 140)

The reason is in this quote from 1912:

1912 - LDS First Presidency Again Denies the “Neutral in Heaven” Idea: Just as Brigham Young denied it, Joseph F. Smith and Charles Penrose deny this theory in a First Presidency letter written to M. Knudson on January 13. “There is no revelation, ancient or modern, neither is there any authoritative statement by any of the authorities of the Church… [in support of the idea] that the Negroes are those who were neutral in heaven at the time of the great conflict or war, which resulted in the casting out of Lucifer and those who were led by him.” (As quoted in Neither White Nor Black, Bush and Mauss, Signature Books, pg. 86)

1934 - Elijah Abel’s Grandson Ordained a Priest: On July 5, Elijah Abel, grandson of the first Elijah Abel, is ordained a priest in the Aaronic priesthood.

1935 - Elijah Abel Ordained an Elder: On September 29, Elijah Abel, grandson of the first Elijah Abel, is ordained an Elder.

1949 - First Presidency Statement on Blacks and Priesthood: “The attitude of the Church with reference to the Negroes remains as it has always stood. It is not a matter of the declaration of a policy but of direct commandment from the Lord, on which is founded the doctrine of the Church from the days of its organization, to the effect that Negroes may become members of the Church but that they are not entitled to the priesthood at the present time.”

1958 - Joseph Fielding Smith clarifies the Church’s Position on Equality for Blacks: Smith goes on to say “if a ***** is baptized and remains true and loyal, he will enter the celestial kingdom.” But he also says, “but we cannot promise him that he will receive the priesthood.”

1978 - Priesthood Ban Lifted: On June 8, the revelation which gives the priesthood to everyone regardless of race or linage is announced. The events leading up to it and the revelation itself are judged to be a true miracle. http://www.blacklds.org/history

More on the reasons why Mormons claimed black skinned people were cursed:

The 1830 Book of Mormon spoke at 2 Nephi 12 p 117 of a “white and a delightsome people” but in 1981 that was changed to a “pure and a delightsome people”. http://mit.irr.org/changes-latter-day-scripture See also 1 Nephi 12:23 & 2 Nephi 5:21 & 3 Nephi 2:15. Those are the reasons in their Book of Mormon.

Cuz the dark Black women aren't physically attractive, look like manly gorillas, and have bad hair. No offense.

I dont know about dark Black men cuz I am not gay. I am a straight man that is only focused on women.

I didn't know that's what they believe. If that is true, then it is very rude and offensive. I mean, this sounds so racist! It is something that only a White Supremacist would believe. All men are created equal in the eyes of God and he loves us all equally. Peace and Love.

In result of bad understanding of Genesis 9:20-27:

"intoxicated, and so he uncovered himself in the midst of his tent. 22 Later Ham the father of Caʹnaan saw his father’s nakedness and went telling it to his two brothers outside. 23 At that Shem and Jaʹpheth took a mantle and put it upon both their shoulders and walked in backwards. Thus they covered their father’s nakedness, while their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.

24 Finally Noah awoke from his wine and got to know what his youngest son had done to him. 25 At this he said:

    “Cursed be Caʹnaan.

Let him become the lowest slave to his brothers.”

    26 And he added:

    “Blessed be Jehovah, Shem’s God,

And let Caʹnaan become a slave to him.

27 Let God grant ample space to Jaʹpheth,

And let him reside in the tents of Shem.

Let Caʹnaan become a slave to him also.” (Genesis 9:20-27. Bible).

Ham saw his father’s nakedness, and instead of showing the proper respect for Noah, the family head and the servant and prophet whom God had made an instrument in the preservation of the human race, Ham told his two brothers of his discovery. Shem and Japheth exhibited the proper respect by walking backwards with a mantle to cover Noah so that they would not bring reproach by looking on their father’s nakedness. Noah, on awakening, uttered a curse, not on Ham, but on Ham’s son Canaan. In the accompanying blessing of Shem, which included a blessing for Japheth, Ham was passed over and ignored; only Canaan was mentioned as cursed and was prophetically foretold to become a slave to Shem and Japheth.—Ge 9:20-27.

They used to. But the majority do not anymore because they changed that part of their belief. Because you know, you can just change the religion's teachings any time you want. It isn't like it is perfect after all.

That marrying multiple cousins thing still is ok though. Don't want to change to much after all.
