Jehovah's Witnesses say helping people is the devil?
That is a paraphrase of course, let me explain;
A comment given by a Jehovah's Witness regarding good works stated that if JWs helped the poor and hungry of the world, then they would be just like false religion "whose food halls and other charities makes them friends of the world, and looked fondly upon" and then they wouldn't be hated enough therby living up to Jn 15:18.
They also state that had Jesus fixed all the poverty and hunger while he was on earth, he would have been aiding Satan's cause, because Satan rules the world. (citing 1 John 5:19, 2 Cor.4:4 John 14:30)
We also shouldn't try to help the poor and hungry because the only thing that will solve it is the Kingdom of Heaven (and they cite Daniel 2:44; 7:13,14, Matthew 6:10) and because "you will always have the poor with you" we shouldn't help them. Help is only for spiritual brothers and sisters.
I don't think anyone would argue that Satan influences the world, and that the only thing that will bring lasting eternal change is the coming of God's kingdom...
But can we REALLY conclude from scripture that that means Jesus wants his followers to say "sorry, starving homeless person.... help is just for my brothers in Christ. YOU are part of Satan's world, and the poor will always be with you, and if I helped you people would like me, and I need to be hated..."
When I read the bible, I see that we are supposed to help everyone, "especially" (not only) brothers and sisters in the faith.
What does scripture really show us? Is this an official teaching of the Watchtower?
Here is a link to the comments which inspired this discussion. As I stated in my last comment there, I will not reply further in the comment thread, so trying to respond there will only prove you to be uninterested in any actual dialog, as Tim has done /question/index?qid=20160...
BTW Tim, if you're reading this, you'll notice I DID address James, clearly you did not actually read.
If that is not enough for you, you have only to look at the rash of 'questions' posted by an anonymous coward trying very hard to prove that not helping unbelievers is completely ok.
If the thought process behind these statements/questions is wrong then it appears some of your brothers are confused.

You know, I'm really not even sure what to do with all that. My heart is in volunteering, service and helping people. I can't even wrap my head around such despicable comments.
The Bible says to help brothers/sisters in Christ AND others.
The Watchtower opinion is: why waste time providing for the physical needs of people like the churches but starve them spiritually? They think their message and no other type of help is what counts. Last time I checked, I think eating a Watchtower would not be so appetizing. Also, don't let them fool you into believing they do any actual kind of selfless, no payment expected, disaster relief or that they bother helping anyone besides other JWs. And just the comment that all the churches only help people with physical needs and nothing else only shows their absolute stupidity. Ok, my answer ends here before I say anything else.
Edit: I've read through all the comments on the link you provided. All I can really say is to keep fighting the good fight - and don't expect lost people to have any real comprehension or understanding, which was clearly demonstrated.

Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to help the needy. They are only worried about building up.their false religion. I saw a recent video on the Syrian refugee crisis where real Christians and others were housing and feeding the refugees whilst the Jehovah's Witness stood nearby with their propaganda carts, giggling. They prey on the needy.

I'll give you an answer next time I am approached by a starving Jehovah's Witness. They really are the most unutterable ****.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe what you've stated here in this question of yours, so stop misrepresenting us (yet again)
We DO aid people both spiritually and physically but as my brother here has already pointed out we don't toot our horns about it.
If as you say one of Jehovah's Witnesses has said what you've stated here (which I highly doubt because we believe no such thing in your first paragraph especially) then please provide a link to the statement. Otherwise readers cannot confirm this, and as you've shown yourself to be a hater of our beliefs in the past, then they'll not believe you
Edit..
I've just read through the comments of the link you provided and your conversation with Tim, and you are totally misrepresenting what he said. You have twisted what he said by implying that he said we shouldn't help people. This is not true. The main title of your question shows that too. Now whether that is intentional to mislead people about our beliefs or whether you simply didn't read through his comments properly, I don't know. But as you've negatively misrepresented our beliefs before, I can take a good guess.

When a disaster strikes, Jehovah s Witnesses immediately organize assistance to bring relief to their brothers who are affected. Such efforts demonstrate the genuineness of our love for one another. (John 13:34, 35; 1 John 3:17, 18) In what ways do we help?
WE DONATE FUNDS. When we learn that our brothers in some part of the world are facing hardship, we send donations through our local congregation to supply material aid to those in critical need.-2 Corinthians 8:13-15
WE PROVIDE PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE. The elders who are at the scene of a disaster locate each congregation member to ensure that everyone is accounted for and safe. A relief committee may coordinate the supplying of food, clean drinking water, clothing, shelter, and medical help. Many Witnesses with the needed skills volunteer go to, at their own expense and participate in the relief work or to repair damaged homes and Kingdom Halls. The unity that we enjoy as an organization and the experience we have gained in working together enables us to mobilize quickly in times of need. Although we extend our hand to "those related to us in the faith," WE ASSIST OTHERS TOO WHEN POSSIBLE, WHATEVER THEIR RELIGION.-Galatians 6:10
WE OFFER SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. Victims of a disaster especially need comfort. At such times, we draw strength from Jehovah, "the God of all comfort." (2Corinthians 1:3, 4) We gladly share the Bible s promises with those in despair, offering the assurance that soon GOD S KINGDOM WILL BRING AN END TO ALL THE TRAGEDIES that cause pain and suffering.-Revelation 21:4.

Read Gods word> king James version or new king James version. Do what it says, not what a religion says. Matthew 5:40-47

Jehovah's Witnesses are helping people but you don't know for this reason:
“Take care not to practice your righteousness in front of men to be noticed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens. 2 So when you make gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 3 But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your gifts of mercy may be in secret. Then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you" (Matthew 6:1-4. Bible).
Do you understand?...

What you have stated in your details is an accurate depiction of the reasoning used by most JWs. It is a twisted, nihilistic reasoning which they use to justify their selfishness as an organization.
As an organization, they exhibit the same kinds of illogical reasoning, callousness to outsiders, haughtiness and self-righteousness as demonstrated by the scribes and the pharisees. They are the modern-day "christian" version of the scribes and the pharisees. Blind, haughty, self-righteous, bigoted and hypocritical.
