    0 = 12.03 * t + 1/2 * −9.8 * t²

    0 = 12.03 t − 4.9 t²

    0 = t (12.03 − 4.9 t)

    t = 0

    t = 1203/490 ≈ 2.4551

    It's a quadratic equation, so use any method available to solve it. Factoring and completing the square usually work well.

    -(½)9.8t² + 12.03t = 0 <--- Because there is no constant term, one solution will be {t=0}

    4.9t = 12.03

    t = 12.03/4.9

    t ≈ 2.46 <--- This is the second solution

    0 = 12.03t + [(1/2) x (-9.8) x t²]

    This IS your questions right?

    0 = 12.03t - 4.9t²

    0 = -t(4.9t - 12.03)

    t = 0, 12.03/4,9

    t = 0, 1203/490
