I have a question about what counts as work experience for my resume?

So I m 17 and I don t really have a job. I ve applied to a bunch of places but no one has called me back. I do small things every now and again and I m wondering if I could include them on my resume for college?

When my next-door neighbors go on vacation, I ll usually dog sit for them. They re usually gone at least a week and I ll go over and feed their dogs, change the waters, play with them outside for an hour 2 or 3 times a day, and we ll go on walks if it s really nice out. Do you think I could put that on my resume? I don t do it all the time, just when they go away so maybe 3 or 4 times a year. And it s not like I dog sit for tons of families. I ve also dog sat for a friend s family twice, doing the same things I did for my neighbor s dog but not so many times a day because my friend lives farther away.

Also, I ve spent a lot of time helping my friend s family renovate a couple houses over the last year. I ve painted the outside, moved furniture, torn out carpet, painted inside, cleaned/mopped the house and the floors, put in windows and shutters, and done yard work to help with the renovations. We ve done/are going to do three houses (a farm house, a lake house, and their deceased grandparent s house) and one barn. Do you think that would be something I could put on the resume? It s not like they re set shifts or anything and it s for my friend s family but it s a lot of work.

At your age, any experience is useful. "Dog-sitting" and "home renovation" are relevant.

For the future, in case you're looking for a job, would the dog owners and the people you've worked with on renovations be willing to give you references?
