Employers turn me down because I have no retail experience. How am I supposed to get retail experience if nobody give me a chance?
I'm a teenager. I have experience in a café a few years ago but it was mostly dishwashing and cleaning. I've also worked at an after school care program for ages. I've tried to volunteer in charity shops to get more experience but they have enough people already. What should I do? I need a job so badly
Yes it has to be retail.
Cashier positions hardly come up where I live, I have but it's so competitive.
I'd love to work at a café but like I said my experience was washing dishes not making coffee. I don't want to go back to washing dishes, I'm not that desperate. You get treated like shit as a dishwasher. I've looked into barista courses but they are all so expensive.

Hey I had the same problem. I wanted a job somewhere good such as a clothes shop or nice cafe and they all wanted someone 2+ years of retail training. Which sucks. So what I did is get a job at McDonalds and through McDonalds you can get you certificate 3 in retail and then go back to the places you want to apply and shove your certificate in their faces :)

If there's an ice design near you apply for them, they give you great retail experience. Honestly the only thing you can do is ring every business you can think of, even ones nobody has heard of.

Apply to every job you think you'd qualify for - inventory stocker, cashier, kitchen worker, etc. Anything and everything. The best thin you can also do is make a follow up call 4-7 days after you submit your application especially if the place says they're hiring

Try fastfoods. They always hire inexperienced. They need workers.
