Why do some children color their pets? Do you allow them to do this?

Tonight the 4 year old boy next door colored a good part of his kitten purple. Do you let your kids do this to their pets? I don't have kids, but if I did, I would not, as I think it's disrespectful to the animal, also the ink could get everywhere and might be toxic to them. What are your thoughts?

That's just bad parenting. If they want to let their child color they can buy a coloring book.

I've never known a child to color his pet. So the fact that you have a neighbor who did it doesn't mean it's any sort of typical activity for preschoolers.

I have no idea why this particular child did it, but I'd be more concerned about the kitten clawing and scratching the child than any particular toxicity from paint.
