As the number of species goes up, the number of individuals per species goes down?

When species are added to a community, the number of individuals in a species goes down. What's this called?

    Interspecific competition ...

A common example is lions and cheetahs. Both eat the same prey. So if lions were present originally, and you added cheetahs, the number of species has increased, but now the population of each species has to decrease to accommodate the additional pressure caused by availability of food.

It is not called either of these things but it is related to biodiversity and to carrying capacity. Generally, it works best when the stress on the community is organic pollution. I would not rely on the principle you cite in other situations.
