Would you find a religion based upon bacon weird?

Nah.

Major world religions are ALL based upon lunacy.

One.... based upon a guy who's claim was that he went to a cave so god would talk to him, another who people claimed was god.... but then was executed by human authority so his followers pretend his zombie should be worshiped, another has dozens of gods.... animals human hybrids mostly, one claims that god is a white dude that lives on planet Kolob where you get to hang out with all of your dead ancestors forever if you behave yourself (as though that isn't the worst thing I can imagine) and yet another was founded by a man who thought aliens infect human bodies and are the cause of all human suffering.

A religion based upon a delicious food sounds downright logical in comparison.

Not at all. The burning of animal flesh is a sacrifice performed by mystics of innumerable faiths. Bacon is a pig, and a pig and humans are very closely related genetically - cannibals have called humans "long pigs." So clearly we have a relationship that is mutually intertwined.
