Question for Christians, Others welcome to answer also....Is it sin to simple look upon a person and desire them?

Recently got into a lengthy religious conversation with a guy and during the conversation he brought up that it's sin to look at a woman and desire her. I generally disagree;

I know where he's coming from with such statement but I would distinguish weather it's right or wrong based on 1.What a persons intentions are lusting to commit sin is one thing; but being interested to get to know the person is completely different.

Then 2. Thinking about something and actually doing something are two different things. A woman can desire to sleep with a guy, but till she's actually had sex with him outside of marriage &/or slept with another woman's man she's committed no offense or sin.

Am I wrong? Is he correct, especially from a Biblical perspective ?

    This is where you would be deceived if you simply read the bible without studying it.

    Matthew 5:28...

    "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

    The word woman means a MARRIED woman in this scripture. Check it out in your Strong's concordance. Their is nothing wrong with being attracted to and admiring the beauty of the opposite sex. It is natural, as long as you do not totally objectify the person.

    Fornication in the bible is another word you must look up, It does not mean simply having intercourse, it means committing adultery with a married woman.

    Lust is also hazy. Lust is selfish, like a one night stand. Their is really no law (in my opinion) against a couple that LOVES each other and engages in intimacy, regardless of a wedding. True, it is best to marry if you are going to be intimate, but young Christians who are busy professionals sometimes must put this off till their late 20's or even 30's and I am a realist. Preachers should not run off young people or condemn them for being attracted to the opposite sex. It is natural.

    Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

    But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

    If you are married with other woman... What do you think about that Jesus Christ said?

    "“You heard that it was said: ‘You must not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If, now, your right eye is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you. For it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be pitched into Ge·henʹna. 30 Also, if your right hand is making you stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you. For it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to land in Ge·henʹna" (Matthew 5:27-30. Bible).

    By desire, your friend meant lust and you either could not or would not comprehend that.
