God, well thousands have been prayed to and none of them ever answered. So no they are not real and yes they are an idea utilised by people to control through fear and imaginary retribution.

    Atheist.

I believe that there is a God because there is no way you can prove that He doesn't exist. I realize that many christians seem to just point at the bible or plug their ears in ignorance when atheists claim there is no God. However, a long time ago I attended a lecture at Stanford University where there was older man who was ranting to the student body about how irrational it was to believe there is a God. (Being the shy person that I am I just cringed in my seat) About halfway through his rant, he stopped and offered the mic to anyone who could prove to him that there was a God. Almost immediatly a young man to my left stood up and proclaimed, "I'll only need two!" The man went up to the stage and drew a large empty circle on the whiteboard. He said, " Let's say that this circle is Knowledge, all the knowledge that can ever be amassed" He then asked the professor to draw a smaller circle inside of the large circle, to represent his own knowledge. When he was done drawing, the young man asked him what lay inside the rest of the large circle. The professor replied that he didn't know. The young man then asked him, "How can you possibly know that God doesn't exist in that big circle?" The true answer here is that you can't definitively prove he doesn't exist.

If God is more than an idea, please provide some evidence that consists of something other than human thoughts. Example: the bible, a book, a collection of recorded human thoughts. Example: God communicates with people; is it ever possible to record these communications? No, because it occurs in people's brains. Example: the world is often said to be proof of God's existence. Is there actual evidence that a god created anything? No, there is not; everything that we observe occurs by natural means; that anything was created by a god is something people imagine based on the fact that humans create things.

It would have been more correct to ask if any gods are real. One clear indication that they are not is their number. Even if we exclude gods that no one worships today there are still a large number of gods claimed to be in existence. If a god existed then it is almost certain that he/she/it would have made herself/himself/itself well-known to all human beings and we would all worship the same god in the same way. Instead we see a plethora of gods. Even within the same religion adherents cannot agree on the articles of their faith and the proper form of worship. This clearly demonstrates that no gods exist and that all deities were created by the human mind.

Mankind of one sort or another is over 2.8 MILLION years old, modern man 250,000 years old, Christianity just 2,000 years old with Islam an even younger 1,400 years old!

If it was not for man god would not have been invented!

The only way primitive religion exists today is through the child abuse of forcing it into very, very young children but thanks to better education and growing intellects so many teens are able to discover the truth, throw off the indoctrination and step into the real world!

Atheism is not a conscious decision or a belief but a realisation, those that cannot escape remain prisoners of their conditioning!

The first person to produce a single tiny little piece of verifiable evidence for any god will become world famous and mega rich!

Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!

At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

Christianity is an invention of the Italians and that is why it came from the Holy ROMAN Catholic church!

Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead!

    Josephus AD 37 – AD 100

    Tacitus AD 56 – AD 120

    Suetonius - 69 – 130 AD

Pliny the Younger, 61 AD – 112 AD

Justin Martyr (Saint Justin) AD103–165 AD

Lucian - AD 120 -180 AD but he was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it.

    Pamphilius AD 240-309 AD

    Eusebius AD 263 – 339 AD

    Photius AD 877 – 886 AD

Thallus - But there are no actual record of him except a fragment of writing which mentions the sack of Troy [109 BC] Showing that he was clearly not alive in biblical times.

Some even try to use Seneca. 4 BCE – 65 CE but as a Stoic Philosopher he opposed religion yet made not a single mention of a Jesus or Christianity!

Even funnier is trying to claim Celsus AD ? – 177 AD Who said that Jesus was a Jew who’se mother was a poor Jewish girl whose husband, who was a carpenter, drove her away because of her adultery with a Roman soldier named Panthera. She gave birth to an illegitimate child named Jesus. In Egypt, Jesus became learned in sorcery and upon his return presented himself as a god.

God is real, more real that we are. There was a time when we did not exist, and we could go back there and not come back. With God, in order for him to do the things that he must have done, would have to be uncreated, unhindered by space and time, and a unquenchable source of energy and intelligence.

Atheism will never be able to hold up to the rigorous test of the scientific method, and this is why atheists, tacitly realizing this, don't even try.

The assertion that says, "you can't prove that the tooth fairy exists, so you can't prove that God exists" is also a fallacy argument, because the existence or non-existence of one neither proves or disproves the existence of the other.

You can't prove that God does not exist, not as long as there are things that exist in this universe - these are the evidence that he does exist. One can say "I don't see God, so therefore he must not exist." However, everyone sees or is aware of some elements of this universe, even to the air that one breathes.

Two other points of evidence: #1 Outer space (vacuum) is dark and void. The writer(s) of Genesis somehow knew that before science or space shuttles ever existed. #2 There is indeed a male and female ancestoral parent for every human being. Therefore there must have been a first male and female.

These are two points, based on observable evidence that still exists, that the events in Genesis are likely to have happened. The atheists' choice is to reject any evidence of a creator. That is a choice, but not based on reasoning or logic.

God is defined as the Creator, the one who created these things. This one has to be intelligent, because we see evidence of intelligence in his works. This one has to be living, and outside of time and space, because we currently see the universe as being billions of years old.

"Natural materialism" cannot accomplish these things, because our collective experience is that something does not come from nothing, and life only comes from pre-existing life. Since Darwin especially, the more we study about life, the more complex it shows itself to be, and the less likely it is that life came about by purely "natural" means. The simplest microbes are incredibly complex, and are not just a jumble of chemicals. Also, the laws that govern matter and energy did not just come into being - these represent selections made from alternatives.

The idea of the existence of aliens that supposedly brought life here leaves out the existence of God or in his special creation of life. In fact, any proposed theory that leaves out the existence of God as Creator is preferred by atheists.

Extraterrestrial alien visitations, multiverses, and an eternal universe are the hypotheses which have no proof, and which are only considered because they all leave God out.

What we know by scientific observation and the discovery of the red shift (Penzias and Wilson) that this universe had a beginning.

Probability experts have demonstrated that even 14 billion years is not enough time to produce this universe by chance. And chance is the only driving force until life is produced, when natural selection and the drive toward survival is supposed to become an additional change agent from that point on. Of course, the fossil record, particularly the Cambrian explosion, cannot be explained by natural selection either.

May I add, there are scientists who now say that the life came into existence through tiny gradual steps that remained until the chemicals figured out how to replicate themselves. Some of these steps are demonstrated by the scientists themselves who - surprise! - input their own intelligence and direction into the experiments. Back then, billions of years ago, those ambitious scientists weren't there, but their efforts certainly indicate that there is a need for intelligence to direct the operation. And there was intelligence, divine intelligence, and design.

Extra terrestrial alien visitations or panspermia (preferred by Hawking and Behe) are proposed to lengthen the amount of time to produce life to longer than 14 billion years. But, again, it does not explain the beginning of life, or of all of the things that precede life - development of stars and planets, and life-friendly orbits, etc. If anything, it only would lengthen the time for life to come into being, since these aliens supposedly had it before it was seeded here. Not to mention that there is absolutely no evidence of any extraterrestrial life here.

There is also no indication that the universe begins again and again (this is suggested by some scientists and Hindu tradition) - but we only know by observation that the material universe began once.

The multiverse theory is designed to provide an explanation for the obvious fine tuning of the universe without an intelligent God. However, outside of this theory, there is also no indication that this universe is one of all of the possible and existing universes that can produce what we see now - matter, energy, forces, laws, and life. There is a whole lot that we do not know about the universe and existence - but we can only observe that these things are here.

Some claim that faith is believing in something for which there is no proof. Proof does exist, but each must find it for themselves, but not by the "scientific method", because God isn't some phenomenon that can be experimented on, and the results replicated. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says: Make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine. 1 John 4:1 says: Test the inspired expressions (or, "spirits") to see if they are from God. This does not sound like "without needing proof." If we seek God in sincerity, he will let himself be found.

Observation is, however, a legitimate and evidence-discovering tool of the scientific method. And these observations leave intact the concept of an ever-living, intelligent, powerful Creator.

Still, it takes faith to believe in God, and not everyone has or is willing to have faith. So God's existence becomes clearly apparent only to those who search for him - then he will be willing to let himself be found by them.
