You can if you use IVF and insemination. They can determine gender in the early embryonic stage of development in IVF. You can choose which to implant as well. I had a cousin who had a bunch of male embryos implanted multiple times and none took. The females took the first time. It just depends.

As for natural conception, no. You cannot determine the gender. Its defermined the minute the baby is concieved. In some countries, it is actually illegal for doctors to reveal the gender of a baby in an ultrasound because some people will have gender specific abortions.

Not naturally but, it is thought options are available for choosing the sex of your child, but none are guaranteed.

For a natural way it is thought that the male (Y) sperm is smaller, faster, and more short-lived than the female (X) sperm so because of this, it is thought better for boy-desiring couples to have sex closest to the time when a woman's egg is released

The odds of choosing the sex of your child may be better with the help of technology. According to the fertility experts a method that involves separating the male sperm from the female -- is the current gold standard.

  • Not only is that against nature--and creation, in general--I suppose it's possible in a few UNrealistic, UNnatural circumstances.

Why would you even want to choose the gender? That completely takes away the surprise and anticipation of having a baby. While there are many couples who choose to find out the gender of their unborn children, there are still quite a few who prefer to be surprised and find out when the baby is born.

IMO, I believe it's utterly wrong to choose the gender. Be happy with you were/are/will be blessed with.

Yes, if you want to pay for fertility assistance. There are two options - sperm sorting and in vitro fertilization. Sperm sorting is not guaranteed, but it gives you a much better chance. In vitro fertilization is pretty fool proof for selecting sex. They take sperm and eggs and grow the embryos in a lab. They can tell which are male and which are female, so you can only have embryos of the sex that you choose implanted in your uterus.

And really ... people don't know this? It's also not wrong to choose the sex if you have a valid medical reason. There are some genetic diseases that are linked to a person's sex. If one of those diseases runs in your family, it would make perfect sense that you would want to choose the sex that isn't affected by the disease.

Here is a good summary of the options and process with factual information: http://www.babycenter.com/0_choosing-your-babys-se...

I suppose it would possible to abort until you get the sex you want. Or to adopt, insisting that you will only accept a particular sex.

But if you're asking about a guaranteed way to conceive a particular sex -- no.
