It's completely true, which is why it says "it is AS THOUGH", not "it is in fact". One unjust killing is tantamount to a hundred,or a thousand, or a million. I think you are thinking too deeply on this one. The quote is an example of "figurative speech," intended to impart a message, that every human life is precious. The speaker doesn't say you have actually "killed all mankind," he merely says it is "as though" you have done so. There is a spirit behind the thought, and a meaningful one, at that.
