    No. Not until one of them had been sworn in as President would death or resignation automatically mean that the VP became President.

    In the meantime, the party would have to decide who the nominee would be.

    The answer is ... no. The DNC/RNC would meet and select a new candidate. The process is within their by-laws. You can read about it on the internet.
