Dragon Quest V young hero stats?
Is there any difference between the stat growth of the hero when he is a child, and even he's an adult? Would leveling up as a child be a bad idea, in the long run?

I'm assuming you are playing the DS version, though this answer also applies to the PS2 version. This answer is invalid for the SNES version, which uses fixed stats.
The DS system uses a random stat increase system, with a modification.
The modification system is an auto-correction system. Meaning you will never arrive at more than + or - 3 save in the most rare of occasions. If your stats somehow go over that barrier, it will auto-correct and bring it within that range. Typically the actual variance is +/- 0 Just so you know.
HP and MP are the only stats with any real fluctuation, but you will rarely see anything beyond +/- 30. At some point the game will never allow you a high stat growth, and it treats each stat individually, so it is almost impossible to ensure all your stats, or even a select two will reach a level you want them to. It actually would take far less time harvesting seeds, or abusing the early TnT boards for those stat tiles.
