Song Association Wednesday #3: Name a song that can be associated with the each of the following countries?

We'll be associating songs with the following countries today. There are no wrong or right answers. If you feel it can be associated in some way, go with it.

1. United States of America

2. United Kingdom

3. China

4. Russia

5. Australia

6. Canada

7. Whatever country you live in, if it isn't listed.

Here are mine:

1. Joy Division - "Transmission"

2. The Clash - "London Calling"

3. Radiohead - "The National Anthem"

4. Black Sabbath - "Snowblind" (if you take the lyrics literally and not metaphorically)

5. Men at Work - "Land Down Under"

6. Radiohead - "Everything In Its Right Place"

BQ: Besides the one you reside in, have you visited any of the countries in the list above?

BQ2: Which country in the list above would you like to visit the most?

    Hi Ryan,

Taking the same approach as last time so I can't guarantee that my selections will make any sense, or that they will even be songs that I like. Just going to say the country in my head three or four times and see what pops up. Word association style.

    1. United States of America - Presidents of the United States of America - Lump (makes sense, but pretty random. Haven't heard that song in the better part of 20 years)

    2. United Kingdom - Oasis - Champagne Supernova

    3. China - Tom Waits - Singapore (I know Singapore isn't in China, but the mind goes where it goes)

    4. Russia - Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - I Am Warm and Powerful

    5. Australia - the Shins - Australia

    6. Canada - AC Newman - Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns

    7. Whatever country you live in, if it isn't listed. - N/A, but a take two at the US nets us... the Beatles - I Wanna Hold Your Hand (it was a live version that started playing on my mental stereo, I suppose it's a US arrival/Ed Sullivan connection?)

BA 1: Aside from living in the US the only other country I've visited is Mexico.

BA 2: I'd love to see all of them. I suppose Canada has always felt the most realistic to me, but I've always kind of had a desire to get to Australia. Tough to say. I'd like to see 'em all.

    Hey Ryan!

    1. United States of America

    Lynyrd Skynyrd - 'Free Bird'

    2. United Kingdom

    Blur - 'Parklife'

    3. China

Modest Mouse - 'Novocaine Stain' (My logic here is that China is largely urbanised and overcrowded)

    4. Russia

    Yes - 'Siberian Khatru'

    5. Australia

    The Kinks - 'Australia'

    6. Canada

    The Rolling Stones - 'Winter'

    7. Whatever country you live in, if it isn't listed.

I live in Scotland, which would typically be associated with different songs than the rest of the UK.

The Proclaimers - 'Sunshine on Leith'

Way too tough for this old sot, 'R. I'll stick with AC/DC, Keith Urban, and Neil Young. Screw China.
