Anyone can follow if they want. I'm a big fan of punk, goth, metal, hip hop, and electronic music. I also enjoy folk, progressive, jazz, experimental, and many other genres.

  • Rock and Pop: Here's a bit of a challenge (well kinda....)?

Beforehand, I want to apologize for not posting any SAWs for the past 2 or 3 weeks. It's been really busy, and I've been going through a lot. I thought I'd post this now, though, since it's an idea I've had for a while.

Your task is to list your favorite album from each year of the decade, in which you were born. I posted this same challenge probably over a year and a half ago, but since my music taste has changed (and yours, possibly), I'm redoing it. Oh, and if you can't think of one for every single year, that's fine.

Here are my picks for the '90s.

    1990: Depeche Mode - "Violator"

1991: Primus - "Sailing the Seas of Cheese"

    1992: The Cure - "Wish"

    1993: Primus - "Pork Soda"

1994: Nine Inch Nails - "The Downward Spiral"

    1995: Radiohead - "The Bends"

    1996: Weezer - "Pinkerton"

1997: Radiohead - "OK Computer" / Modest Mouse - "The Lonesome Crowded West" (tie)

    1998: At the Drive-In - "In/Casino/Out"

1999: Nine Inch Nails - "The Fragile"

Some of my choices are the same, actually...

BQ: Are there any albums from my picks that you enjoy?

    BQ2: Ask me any question.

  • Is it normal for anxiety to make physical exercise harder (and to easily make you out of breath)?

Hey everyone. I'm 16, and panic disorder (which runs in my family) has really been taking control of me for the past 3 weeks. At least, that's what my family is positive it is. I feel like my life has been taken away from me :-(. I went to the doctor to get an EKG, blood test, and chest x-ray to rule out anything else and was told that I'm as healthy as a horse. I've been on Lexapro and Ativan for 2.5 weeks which have helped me a bit but I'm still waiting for a full effect, as I'm not getting full-blown panic attacks as much but am still experiencing a lot of breathing troubles, which are extremely uncomfortable. I also noticed that I easily get out of breath when just doing small physical exercise. I just wanted to make sure this is normal since I'm extremely paranoid about my health, despite the fact that I was told I'm healthy. I'm so afraid. Thanks to anyone who can help.

  • Song Association Wednesday #4: Here's something a bit different?

This time, the challenge is to name your Top 5 favorite bands and associate a song with each of the 5 bands, for whatever reason you'd want to associate it. BUT, the song cannot be by any of the bands in your Top 5. Here's my list, for instance.

    1. The Cure

    2. Brand New

    3. Joy Division

    4. Nine Inch Nails

    5. Radiohead

    And here are the songs:

    1. Depeche Mode - "Black Celebration"

    2. Sunny Day Real Estate - "Seven"

    3. Protomartyr - "Uncle Mother's"

    4. Tool - "Ænema"

    5. R.E.M. - "Everybody Hurts"

    That should clear everything up.

  • Rock and Pop: There are questions I want to start asking every Wednesday, explained here. How do you feel about this idea?

I want to start something called "Song Association Wednesday". What I would be doing is providing a list of things that are usually related in some way, and asking answerers to name a song that they can associate with each of those things. For example, say I made a list of celebrities -- I would want someone to name a song that can be associated with each celebrity. While it can, whatever song you would choose does not HAVE to have a direct reference to the thing I listed -- it can simply just be a song you would associate with that thing.

How do you all feel about this? I like the idea, and if you do too, I'd like to start asking the questions this Wednesday.

  • How many times has the world been said to be "close" to nuclear war?

Just wondering. I know there have been some times in history before I was born, but just how many? The current situation with Ukraine (I think) is causing some people to think that it will happen and it's scaring me a bit, but I'd feel a lot better if I knew for a fact that people have thought this was a possibility tons of times (without it happening, obviously). I know that throughout the Cold War it was always a possibility but I'm just asking if there were any other times when people said we were particularly close (besides the Cuban missile crisis). I just couldn't imagine a world leader insane enough to destroy humanity, though.

    Thanks!

  • Omigosh, why is music so terrible today? There obviously aren't ANY great artists out there that I'm just too lazy to look for, right?

Nah, that can't be the case. Scene-pop and Top 40 music are obviously the only kinds of music in existence. Music is dead, and kids these days just don't know real music, so let's just go and listen to nothing but classic rock for the rest of our lives!!! IT'LL BE FUN!!!!

  • Are there any fans of La Dispute around here? If so, here are some questions for you...?

    1. What's your favorite La Dispute album?

    2. What are your Top 5 favorite La Dispute songs?

    3. Have you ever seen La Dispute live?

    4. Are La Dispute among your favorite acts of the 21st century?

    Here are my answers...

    1. "Somewhere at the Bottom..." tied with "Wildlife" (really can't choose between those two)

    2. "Andria", "A Departure", "You and I in Unison", "Damaged Goods", "Hudsonville, MI 1956"

    3. Nope, but I really want to.

    4. Definitely somewhere in my Top 3.

BQ: Ask me any question you'd like.

  • What is your favorite Kanye West album?

I ask this because Kanye has released a few different masterpiece albums, and many of his fans seem to have a different opinion on which one is the best. I'll personally go with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. That has to be one of my favorite albums of the decade so far (even if it has a feature from the Nicki Minaj, who I can't stand).

BQ: Do you like rock music? If so, what's your favorite band?

BQ2: What's the last album you listened to?

    For me:

BA: Love it more than hip hop, actually. Favorite band is The Cure.

BA2: Wolves in the Throne Room - Black Cascade

  • Is anyone else having a problem where an answer won't show up if you post a link in it, unless you're signed in to your own account?

The answer disappears when I log off, and I've discovered that it can only be seen by the user who posted it. AKA myself. And of course, it's not an option to delete then try again, because you're unable to answer the same question after deleting an answer once. This has been going on with me for a while now and it's VERY annoying. Honestly, I've almost had it with Y!A's bugs. Anyone else having this issue, or is it just me?

  • Rock and Pop: Name any 5 albums that have grown on you significantly?

Also, rate it on a scale of 1-10, if you can.

Here are 5 of mine (surely not a definite Top 5):

Nine Inch Nails - "The Downward Spiral" (wasn't highly impressed by it at first, but it's an all-time favorite now) - 10/10

    MF Doom - "Operation: Doomsday" - 10/10

    Earl Sweatshirt - "Doris" - 9/10

    Sonic Youth - "Goo" - 10/10

Radiohead - "Amnesiac" (I initially didn't like any of Radiohead's post-'97 stuff, but now I love it all so really any later album of theirs could count) - 10/10

BQ: Favorite song on each album you mentioned?

BQ2: Favorite band of the current decade?

BQ3: Last album you listened to, and rate it on a scale of 1-10.

    For me:

    BA:

March of the Pigs (The Downward Spiral)

    Red and Gold (Operation: Doomsday)

    Hive (Doris)

    Mote (Goo)

    Knives Out (Amnesiac)

    BA2: Protomartyr

    BA3: Misfits - "Earth A.D./Wolf's Blood" - 6.5/10
