computer screen has gone to solid white twice in last couple of days.and all?
The monitor will go white, but can still see mouse pointer, can use mouse to go to bottom of screen and click on start and programs list starts.

sounds like the video card is going bad. perhaps its not compatible with the bios, or you have installed the wrong driver for it. otherwise its got some sort of serious electronic problem. ask a new question state your OS and Version of OS, your mainboard make/name/cpu and BIOS version and driver version and maybe we could help.

try this
-> open task manager
-> process tab
-> find explorer.exe -> right click on it -> end task
Okay now
click File run new task
type explorer.exe
Done
If still not fixed try to update windows or reinstall
