Why is nobody conducting studies to see if there are health benefits to female circumcision?

Female circumcision is an actual procedure that removes the clitoral hood and the labia. What if there are potential health benefits to this that are not currently known because we're not conducting studies to find out?

What if it reduces HIV or cervical cancer prevalence or urinary tract infections?

How would we know if it does these things if we don't carry out some studies to find out?

Update:

Update: I meant to say it removes clitoral hood and inner labia. "inner labia" replacing "labia"

First let's get the terms correct here. Women who had radical surgery to cut off their clitoris, who cannot get any pleasure now from sex, tend to call this female circumcision because they don't like the term female genital mutilation. If you are ONLY talking about the clitoral hood or labia - call it plastic surgery or the real medical terms - clitoral hood reduction or labiaplasty. Plastic surgery always has risks and can cause permanent discomfort:

"This procedure must be approached with caution as complications can include scarring or over resection of tissue around the clitoris which can leave the clitoris exposed which patients can find painful."

It would be interesting to see if this makes a difference in transmission of STDs like it does with male circumcision. They should be doing studies on people who get this elective surgery - I agree.

And where are the studies that examine the health benefits of having a limb hacked off, or being blinded by acid? There's two sides to every story, people.

That's some sorry trolling, right there.

it does no such thing, it is a total abuse of a young girl, often 8 and 9 year olds have to undergo this procedure as you call it.It reduces no disease or infection, in fact many young girls have died from infections because the abuse and cutting is done with dirty implements. all it done is give a girl constant pain, great difficulty with their periods, child birth and sex is a nightmare for them.it is an abomination and should be stopped.

Sure, if we're to believe that cutting off foreskin is a health benefit, maybe we should look into cutting off everything else. Breasts. Less likely to get breast cancer if you don't have breasts. Let's cut those off. Babies? They can eat formula.
