Christians: Do you really like the idea of a god that burns, torments, or rejects anyone for eternity as a punishment?

  • Unfortunately, you're going on something that you have heard and not read. That has been a teaching of Religion, and NOT from the Bible. Satan is the god of this world as you can plainly see in this passage. (1John 5:19 We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one) But, after we die, there is no Burning, or Punishment, which is found in this next scripture,

(Eccl. 9:10 - Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all you might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.) Almighty God made a Promise to mankind, and that's found in (Revolution 21:4 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”) If God is so hateful, why would He give us something so Wonderful to look forward to? We need to stop listening to what the churches say, and start looking it up for ourselves.

Some Bible translations use the word “hell” for the Hebrew word “Sheol” and the matching Greek word “Hades,” both of which refer to the common grave of mankind. (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27) Many people believe in a fiery hell. However, the Bible teaches otherwise.

Those in hell are unconscious and so cannot feel pain. “There is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol.”—Ecclesiastes 9:10.

Good people go to hell. The faithful men Jacob and Job expected to go there.—Genesis 37:35; Job 14:13.

Death, not torment in a fiery hell, is the penalty for sin. “He who has died has been acquitted from his sin.”—Romans 6:7.

Eternal torment would violate God’s justice. (Deuteronomy 32:4) When the first man, Adam, sinned, God told him that his punishment would simply be to pass out of existence: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) God would have been lying if he were actually sending Adam to a fiery hell.

God does not even contemplate eternal torment. The idea that he would punish people in hellfire is contrary to the Bible’s teaching that “God is love.”—1 John 4:8; Jeremiah 7:31.

I am not christain but NO.

I feel very bad and cannot help crying if I see someone in pain. And the pain is everywhere and lots of it and immense pain. That makes me feel how cruel God is.

There are theories that people are punished for their deeds/sins they committed in past lives. But hey whats the meaning if they don't know for what they are being punished. We don't understand how God works if He exists.

But for now I do not like the idea of God that burns, torments, or rejects anyone for eternity as a punishment

Well just take a look at some of the Q and As on here from Christians and how they revel in the idea of atheists burning in hell for an eternity. They love the idea that they're superior and everyone else is screwed.

This is why u should study gods word, revelation says, the murderers, sexual aldulters, thiefs will goto hell. When we had the london riots few years back, u think it be the unfortunate doing the thiefing out of shops and smashing stuff up, a lot of these people had good payed jobs and some were even rich. But the fact is, man can be a two faced crook, imagine it like this, theres no police force, army etc, you would see the true face of mans evil. All sin is against god, god knows the heart better then ourselfs, would u thief in a shop in ur own town or thief in another town. God know the answer to this, i hope u understand where im comin from. As living being we can be ruthless and cruel, with god 5he heart can be transformed, when we admits our failings, sin to him and get born again, 2 rules in life, god or the devil, theres your freewill choice,

I'm not Christian, but that is exactly what I have been thinking every time I walk into a church. You hear people chanting in monotone voices about God the almighty lord. Priest's talks about how amazing and kind God is ,but then you hear people reading from the bible that God will make any sinner burn in hell for eternity and that anyone who defy's him will as well ,and you start to think "**** ,gods a pretty morbid guy !"and even though I'm an atheist, sometimes when I think that their just might be a chance that God is real,I've actually prayed !just the **** priest put into me about burning in hell for eternity, made me get on my knees and pray.

No I don't want to see you suffer, which is precisely why I believe in God, because I think God can help alleviate suffering in a way that nothing else can.

Also I don't believe that God makes people suffer forever, I believe that many Christians who do believe in eternal damnation are wrong. That is cruel and unjust, whatever your crime against this universe, surely the ideal punishment is not infinite torture. You believed in the tree spirits instead of Jesus, but otherwise lived a healthy and loving life where nobody thought ill of you. What's your punishment? ETERNAL TORTURE.

How sad that someone can believe that...way to be loving and tolerant like God taught you guys.

If you don't like the rules, don't play the game.

Do criminals like going to prison?

Do sportsmen and sportswomen who cheat like being disqualified?

Do employees who steal from the company like getting the sack?

Do decent parents like people who hurt or kill their children?

Do people who take an inexplicable dislike to you and slander, threaten and harass you on the internet stay in your social network or do you block them permanently until they have a change of heart?

Are people, generally, less forgiving than a loving Creator?

What would you do to people who abuse, torture or murder other people?

(would you invite such as these into YOUR home?)

So generally speaking, what do you do in life with people who clearly despise, reject and hate you and who, given the opportunity, would steal or destroy your property, your possessions and who would harm anyone whom you love or who loves you? So if these people were effectively a threat to your way of life and anyone whom you love, would you not try to remove them permanently from your life or your community?

    It is all relative.

The most evil will receive the greatest punishment.

Those who have behaved less poorly will receive less punishment

Those who have behaved reasonably and with compassion will receive the least.

But those who have been grateful to the Author of Life and have shown mercy and love for fellow man deserve reward for their endeavors.

When you throw a party, do you invite people who have at very least shown some sort of liking towards you and your other guests?

It is up to God. He and He alone has given this wonderful gift of life to humanity. There is some excuse for those who were unaware of this gift and they may be exempt from blame depending on what they did or whatever their circumstances were.

But for most, there is no excuse. They just wanted to do their own thing, disregarding the needs and feelings of others and what is right for the community as a whole.

Most are missing the most fundamental point of all.

If humanity had been obedient to God and gave Him the respect and thanks which He truly deserves, there would have been no wars, no murders, no fighting, no stealing, no lying, no worship of false deities, no immorality, no hatred, no death.

That's right, no death. Only life.

The evil say that evil is good and the good say that evil is evil.

Why should the righteous and the good have to suffer those who are evil at the end of all of this as a lot of them had to on earth?

You offer a man dying of thirst a cup of water. He spits in your face, knocks the cup out of your hand and looks for something better. Does he find it? No.

So the answer, even if you are not a Christian is no, I don't, I prefer the idea of repentance, forgiveness and salvation.

    Funnily enough, so does God.

Suppose a person rejects God during his years on Earth. God goes out of His way to

forgive this person and have him live with Him forever.

That person wouldn't be able to stand it. Forced, against their will, to be with one they

couldn't stand in the first place.

Think of when you got into an argument with a neighbor-co-worker-relative. You both got

together, talked out everything, resolved the situation and restored the relationship.

Remember how long you were uncomfortable when you ran into this person? How would it

be if the two of you never fixed it. You're then locked in a room this person and neither of you

could escape. How horrible and embarrassing would that be?

Briefly, that explains one reason that Hell is necessary. Keep rivals separate from each other.

Cultural Christians don't believe it and neither do the moderate Christians. The rest just tell you to accept Jesus into your heart, love God and you'll be saved.

Christians have no problem with a spiteful creature sending his own son off as a scape goat to be beaten, tortured and executed by the most painful, barbaric means for a bunch of strangers past, present and future for sins real or potential, sins the spiteful creature created in the strangers in the first place and had the power to remove from them whenever it liked.

I'm not sure they'd approve of beating, torturing and crucifying someone now to attone for their -say- idolatry, adultery or bank fraud - but since they see it as perfectly reasonable and righteous act of God, who knows?

It was all an act of love because they are so special first time around, so maybe they'd be OK with it again if it was done as an act of love for them because they are so special.

You may have noticed, the doctrine of Attonement disgusts me.
