Do you think it's right that people treat their dogs like children?

I mean the people who literally call their dogs their "babies" or "kids" etc, and believe in their heads that they are the equivalent to their own off spring. surely this isn't right. i mean, i love a pet as much as the next person, but believing that it's your child?

Update:

Example.

A woman that i work with actually has kids, but loves her dogs more, even calls them her children's brothers. She even said the other day "taking the kids away on holiday with me soon, felt they needed to be spoilt". Now... if anyone said this, you'd think, aw what a loving mother. However, to then find out that she's leaving her kids at home and taking her dogs away?

Well, they can do whatever they want, but it used to drive me CRAZY when my mother used to tell me "say hello to your sister" (her dog). GAAAAAAA. I have a human sister; I certainly didn't need a canine one.

I don't mind people treating dogs like family, but I draw the line at ignoring ur own children in favor of your dogs or being that crazy person. Like the dogs are not human they don't need some of these things. I will admit to spoiling my girls or on accasion calling my family dogs "My Furry Sisters" to the point of calculating weather they're my older or younger sisters. But it's all in the good fun, and I get that they are dogs and you need to pay attention to your kids. Take the dogs on vacation sure, but for gods sake don't just leave your kids. I hope I explained my view point without sounding stupid or crazy, I had a rough night.

Tricky subject, yes it's weird but I've met a lot of people who physically cannot have children and went into severe depression and one was on suicide watch. Pets actually helped with that and they're often treated like they're their children because it's as close as they could get without the troubles of adoption which isn't recommended for anyone who was suicidal because of not being able to have children.

I think as long as they're not causing any harm to the animal such as these forced vegan diets on pets that are carnivores/omnivores.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Some people don't want kids and they have pets instead they call their children. I'm sure they don't hold them more valuable than human life, even if they don't have kids of their own
