Towing a 4 wheel drive car?
Hi all sadly my I can't fix the clutch on my cr-v myself so need to get it to a garage. Obviously with no clutch I cannot get it into a gear to drive myself. My question is is it ok to be towed by another vehicle by chain or rope ? Obviously I can start the car and have it running to activate all lights and steering and brakes etc but I wasn't sure if towing a 4 wheel drive was ok ? My theory is if engine running should be ok but as I'm not an expert I thought I'd ask for advice from those with the knowledge and experience.

Check the owners's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual search for one online.
All Wheel Drive cars have a center differential system which distributes power to each of the wheels. That can be severely damaged if you tow the car too fast or too far.
You're safe to roll it a bit in neutral, such as pushing it out of the garage and onto a flatbed tow truck or to a parking spot on the street.

Stupid thing to do, call a tow truck.
Besides that is the fact that there is nothing wrong with your clutch. If the clutch was burnt out you would be able to get it into gear.
Whoever has been doing your maintenance hasn't been checking your fluids because the only thing wrong is the clutch master cylinder reservoir has gone low and your pedal isn't working.
Buy a container of BRAKE FLUID, yes that's what is used for clutch master cylinders, and fill up the clutch master cylinder reservoir then pump the pedal about 20 times.
The clutch system will self bleed in that car, after about 20 strokes you'll notice the pedal getting harder and your clutch will work again.

While it's POSSIBLE to tow a car with a chain or a tow strap, it's not really safe to do that in traffic and it MAY be ILLEGAL to do that on the highway. Bite the bullet and call a tow truck. If you have full coverage insurance, your insurance may pay the towing charges.

If you can get the car in neutral then it should be ok. It would be better to put it on a flat bed trailer or have a wrecker tow it

Check the owners manual as there might be a maximum speed or distance. With a standard transmission it's irrelevant whether or not the engine is running but you want it running to activate the power brakes and power steering.
