    The reason is they do not realize then relates to time whereas than is a matter of comparison. It is the difference between now and then, on the one hand, and better or worse than (whatever).

    Because they are only one letter difference between them. And the same is for the confusion between ... they're (as in they are) and their (it belongs to them) - Please confuse these all the timel
