meeting new girls? Help!!?

im in college and i like to spend my time exercising. last week my friend was with a girl and i joined them. the girl whispered something to my friend and looked at me and i thought maybe i had **** on my face or something. then she asked me what my name was and then she said "woooooow"and i got more confused. i just left because i didnt know what to say. today a girl asked me to show her an exercise and then i showed her and she kept giggling and pretending she didnt know even though her form was actually better than most people ive taught. again, i didnt make a move or try to at least be her friend or even ask her name. now i regret it but at the same time, i dont see myself as the kind of guy that gets girls. why? because i am insecure and shy. which girls hate. is there any hope for me? what can i do?
