Smoking near children is not considered child abuse no; however smoking in a confined area without ventilation such as cars is considered mistreatment of children which is why it is currently against the law regarding small children in the UK. You and you're brother will be fine and as long as you take your inhaler as prescribed then you shouldn't have any problems as diffused second hand smoke has little to no long term negative effects on health. Hope this helped!

This is horrible that an 11 year old felt the need to post this. If he repeated says he doesn't like it and has asthma then he IS being mistreated. Whether or not smoking around children is considered child abuse, he clearly doesn't feel safe. Please talk someone like a teacher if you don't feel comfortable around your family, you should always feel safe!

Ok my parents smoked in the home the only thing it did was cause me to want to smoke (which i do) 33 years later and i know its killing me but i cant quit its a daily battle. You are wiser then i was at least u know its not good for you. So its your job as the elder sibling to make sure no ones blowing smoke it yalls faces. But other then that if your a guest in her home or around people who are smoking. POLITELY say "Thanks but id like to live a long time and second hand smoke would make my lungs look like i was smoking!" i bet if you talk to them about it in a nice calmly fashion. They would respect your wishes to not be in the same room as you while smoking. If your in her house on her couch/bed whatever. And being rude about it. You must know thats very disrespectful. You need to be mad at your parents for having you there for longer then a visit. If you are only visiting then buck up and quit complaining your grandma loves to see you and you will only have her for a few years!

No, it is NOT considered "child abuse" if your grandmother smokes around you - not even if you do have asthma. Smoking is not illegal. It is not your grandmother's problem and she is not responsible - you are not her child. It is your parents' problem to deal with.
Do you live in the same house as your grandmother; and, if you do, who owns the house - your parents or your grandmother? If you are living in her house, then your parents need to move to another house where you won't be around your grandmother's cigarette smoke. If your parents don't want to move, then they COULD ask your grandmother not to smoke around you - but good luck with that!

As you say you are too young to be on here and suppose to be 13 to have a yahoo account but in answer to your question - I grew up in the 50s and both parents smoked in the house and we lived in a small room and it never done me any harm.
