If the person you are referring to is very important part of your life then instead of giving up on them, you should consider changing their habits. Encourage them to be non addictive. If you have tried this all then I am sure their addiction will affect your life in bad manner so just keep a heavy heart and go away as soon as possible letting them know that there is nothing like grudge in your heart. You are going away cause of their addiction. You might consider giving them a second chance only if they change for good.

I know this cause my ex started drinking and she left me cause this was one of the reason.

You just do it. It's like quitting your own addiction in a way. It's hard but it's has to be done cold turkey

If they need help, you can suggest help. If they wont listen, you cant' help them and you have to take care of YOU. No one else will.....

It's the same for the addict.. no one can force him to recover.. It's entirely his job to do so

    I wouldn't.

I would try to help them.

I don't have any kids to worry about them being around, so I would stick with them through the dark times until the clearing.
