Do we still have bombers in the air 24 hours a day, armed with nuclear bombs?
Under SAC (Strategic Air Command), we had bombers in the air 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Do we still have that? My guess is, no. But our nuclear submarines are more of a threat, BUT, both Communist China and Russia also have THEIR submarines off our shores!
"Fear of Armageddon" is a phoney "red herring" promoted by global Marxists. At Hiroshima, Japanese within only a half mile of ground zero lived (very long lives). Yes, it was a smaller bomb than we have now, BUT 50 megaton hydrogen bombs have been detonated with close to zero effect. Not counting huge parts of North America, Europe, and Asia, pretty much ALL of South America, Australia, and Africa would be untouched! We need to fight for our freedom, or be resigned to global Marxism.

You haven't needed anything that old-fashioned and obsolete for decades.
There's missile silos all over the US packed with intercontinental ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
ICBM's fire up into space and let the Earth rotating beneath them carry their warheads over their targets.
Then the warheads drop from orbit to make mushroom clouds out of any target on the planet they're aimed at.
Nuclear Armageddon is insanely fast. So at least you wouldn't be screaming in terror for very long.
An ICBM fired from the continental US can vaporize Moscow within roughly 30 minutes of being launched.
And vice-versa for a Russian ICBM aimed at Washington, DC.
.
A US bomber already in the air would need at least that long just to exit American airspace.
And still be facing an hours-long flight till it reached its target in Russia.
The same goes for Russian bombers heading towards to the USA.
The wonders of modern technology, eh?

SAC gave that up long ago but they do have a number of B-52 heavy bombers in a 5-10 minute scramble mode, how many, not sure but of the 80 or so that are in operatonal, nearly all could be up in a very short time.I would say an undisclosed number could be packing nukes or depending on the mission they could be armed with several different weapons packages..

That piece of the nuclear deterrent plan was discontinued back about fifteen years ago. The B-52 is a pretty old air-frame and has been on active service since 1955. It was determined that by discontinuing that part of the nuclear deterrent program it would help add to the extended life of them and the benefits of that plan were not what they once had been.

Not since the end of the cold war in 1968. SAC is still alive and well, and with our current technology, can respond to nuclear threat globally in less than one hour.
USN currently has 43 Los Angeles class fast attack subs, including 18 Ohio class, all capable of 24 trident missiles each(8 birds per missile). some carry 154 tomahawks. Not counting 14 Virginia and seawolf class still commissioned.
The air force B1 count 62, the B2, 20, and still flies 76 B-52s All nuclear capable.
Arms treaties limit the number of airborne nukes but are tomahawk capable.(nuclear capable)
At mach 2, the B1 does not need to be in the air 24/7 and strategic placement, means less than 20 minute response anywhere in the world, and enough firepower to make any continent a very hot place for 10,000 years. Just one Los Angeles class submarine caries more fire power than has been expended in all of the wars in US history combined(nuke included). You can sleep easy tonight.

I am no expert, but I believe most of our nuclear weapon are either on submarines or on the ground. Flying them around 24/7 would be horribly inefficient.

Depends who you mean by "we".
If you're in the UK, no. The RAF no longer has any role in the nuclear weapons program, the Royal Navy maintains ICBM capable nuclear submarines at various locations around the world - with at least two at sea and ready to launch at all times.

No. We only have around 125 bombers so can not have loaded ones in the air all the time. We have maybe 20 loaded and sitting on alert, ready to take off.
- DanielLv 74 years ago
We haven't had nukes airborne since the 60s. We haven't even had them on ground alert for 25 years.

NO, we never have, we have first reponse bombers that can be in the Air in minutes if need be, But not much need for it, all nikes need to be bannned.
