why are people so offended by Christmas?
I work at a university where the word Christmas has been banned because it offended someone...the same kind of thing is happening at my kids elementary school, but then they still talk about santa and one of my sons made a menorah as a class project...and the same people who are offended by the word Christmas still give out presents and celebrate the holiday...why is Christ and Christianity victimized while other beliefs are tolerated and even intentionally included?

I think you are assuming someone was offended by Christmas. Do you know who it was? Or is this a rumor you heard or did you just assume without knowing the facts?
I think the problem with Christmas is that is has become so over commercialized. It's no longer about celebrating Saturnalia with excessive drinking, gambling and orgies - all of which would be inappropriate at work or school. It's no longer about celebrating pregnant virgins riding around on talking donkeys and giving birth in a filthy barn. It's all about greed and popularity. Everyone is competing to see who gets the most cards and gifts. It distracts people from concentrating on work or school and is reminds lonely, unpopular people how dreadful their life is. It's no wonder people commit suicide around the holidays.
@Gert: Please feel free to celebrate Christmas in your own home. Spend your money and decorate it anyway you like. But remember Matthew 6:5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others." No one is prohibiting you from celebrating Christmas but you have no right to force your beliefs on others.

It's because of the separation of church and state. I say BULL. I'm a Christian and I'm celebrating Christmas, which is the birth of Christ. I don't give a $hit who it offends or who likes it. I am so sick of not seeing Nativities around town. I'm sick of no Christmas programs with any religious content. I'm sick of all this bull. I went to a kid's Christmas program that contained no Christmas carols. I think everyone has lost their mind. What about MY rights? I believe in God, but I'm not allowed to celebrate it? Speak of it? Something is very, very wrong. All this was because of the Atheists. Their rights are more valid than MINE?????

No one is offended by Christmas. Just be aware that there are a lot of other holidays that occur near the Christmas season.

Because Christmas is the birth of Christ. That guy Muslims hate and that guy that Jews don't believe in. So instead we say 'happy holidays'.
