Heatpump not putting out enough warm heat ! Have ckeanedc all vents ????? whats the problem?

Look here is what is NOT discussed about heat pumps .There limited to what they can effectively and even then it is still not that great In freeze /snow areas a heat pump should not even be considered .Simply because they can not match the BTU output of fuel fired units On the west coast H/P 's are okay i guess But from the mid west to the east They wont really be that great It also depends on the size of your unit is it sized too small ?But they do make a "supplemental "add on heating element for heat pumps to increase the heat output On google or whatever search engine you use type the brand of your heat pump and the size in BTU This info is on the unit usually a sticker showing all vital info for the unit look for the spec. tag Take that info and add it in the search query then put supplemental heat element Thats the only thing i can think of that will help you Otherwise get used to wearing a sweater all the time inside your home There are some areas heat pumps should not even be considered or offered for sale even There limited at best and will never match the output of fuel fired furnaces /heaters

More info needed: age of hp, how long has it been doing this, does it go into the auxiliary heat mode ? How warm does it actually get ?

When it gets below 35 degrees f, heat pumps are not very efficient. Heat pumps do not put out warm air compared to a gas fired furnace.

How old is your thermostat? How old is your heat pump? Most units last anywhere from 7-20 years depending on use. Perhaps one or the other is not functioning correctly. If you have cleaned all suggested above, you might try a new thermostat, and if that is not the problem, it sounds like it is time for a professional.

Several possibilities come to mind:

a) heat strips are not working

b) low on refrigerant so your relying only on heat strips

c) air circulation problem (including dirty filters, loose duct, or closed vents)

d) Bad capacitor

e) bad OD fan motor

those are the big ones that come to mind. Have a technician check them out.

What about the filter? It's in the main inside unit. If you haven't replaced the filter in a while it's also possible that the coils are clogged with dust as well. You will have to call a repairman to have the coils professionally cleaned.

Forced air heat is dependent on circulation. Make sure all your doors are open inside. And yes, that filter must be clean or it will not circulate properly.

Have the refrigerant level check. You probably have a leak. Call for service.
