What is life like in New Zealand?

I no longer recognize my home country. Even a few years ago, I believed I was in the majority. That we were a country that welcomed immigrants, that thought education was important, that believed in helping those who were less fortunate than we are. Now that Trump has been elected, I see that I'm wrong. I've never been ashamed of the U.S. before, and I was always proud to be an American, but I don't think I can live in a country that demonizes people like me as much as they do now. I want to leave, to find somewhere far away, so that when Trump gets us into war my family and I will be safer. Somewhere that still respects others and their points of view, that still values personal freedom, and where I don't have to be ashamed of not agreeing blindly with our leadership. I've been looking into government websites which say how accepting New Zealand is. Is it true?
