VMI or The Citadel chances?
Hello everyone! Im new to Yahoo answers, so i would like to say i hope everyone is positive in the community :).
I am a junior in a college prepatory highschool (one of the best) in Florida. But i am worried i wont get accepted into VMI because of my low gpa. My goal is to comission in the army as an officer through ROTC. I have a terrible gpa due to personal issues, but am very confident in getting a high test scores and excell in other areas. If i applied with the following, would i have somewhat of a chance to get accepted right after highschool? I really am serious about this as i have ambitious goals in life, and that includes becoming an officer in the army.
1. 2.3 gpa (not good at all)
2.200 community hours in library, church, hospital ect...
3.Nearly perfect SAT/ACT scores (1550/32)
4.been to clubs such as FBLA, Japanese culture club, and chess club.
5.Have taken honors classes throughout my Highschool along with one/two AP Classes.
6.sports is not my strong area either, but i do work out and am physcially fit, along with Swimming and playing Tennis
7.I have leadership potential, with business/History/Politics as my favorite subjects.
8.i can get reccomendations from teachers and try to write an essay regarding my potential.

The Citadel was a pipeline for the Charlotte's Marine Corps Officer Selection Office's PLC Program in the '70/80's both are good schools but I know little about VMI..................

you have less than zero chance at an ROTC contract with that GPA. there is NOTHING that you list that indicates ANY leadership potential.
anyone who lets 'personal issues' affect their grades so much does NOT have the necessary skills and qualities required to be a leader of Men and Women into Battle.
you do not even qualify to apply for a scholarship.
that being said, anyone can do the first 2 years of ROTC. you would need a 4.0 GPA in a STEM Major, be on at least one Team sport with a leadership position( captain, manager, etc) as well as be an active participant on at least 3 other clubs or organizations( Fraternity, a civic outreach program, tutoring underprivileged teens, etc) for them to CONSIDER granting you a contract. which is NOT a scholarship. ( most ROTC applicants never get a scholarship at all)

1. You are not new here. You have been asking basically the same question nearly daily in the military and higher education sections.
2. So, you are back to being a high school junior and not a student at Miami-Dade Community College?
3. They are not going to simply overlook a C+ GPA. The SAT/ACT scores help, but they might not overcome the GPA. It would help if you provided some sort of breakdown of that GPA--ie show that you are not getting straight As to back up the test scores.

Being in honors classes doesn't mean a thing if your GPA is only around 2.3.
Only about 30-35% of VMI cadets commission. Going to VMI does not guarantee commissioning. And with a 2.3 GPA, you are not anywhere even near the realm of competitive for an ROTC scholarship. VMI is an very expensive school to go to without a scholarship or commissioning afterwards.
