When did your child give up their naps?

Just curious!!

My daughter Abby who will be 7 in May takes an hour nap in the afternoons still.

And my son Benny who is only 9 months old takes two 1.5 hours naps a day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon).

My oldest was almost 4 years old before he stopped napping. My youngest was almost 3 when suddenly he went from a 2 hour nap to no nap at all.

Mine was about 2.5 years when he gave up naps and even now at 5 years sleep about 11 hours at night.

  • I don't have kids but my nephew Dillon and niece Desiree who are twins and will be 9 in June still take an hour nap in the afternoons (like from 3 to 4). They go to bed around 8 and sleep until 7.

My other nephew and Dillon and Desiree's baby brother who is only 5 weeks old sleeps most of the day like most young baby's do.

My other older niece Lily Belle who is 5.5 gave up her naps at 2 years old (she was taking a 2 hour nap and then went from taking no nap). She sleeps about 12 to 13 hours at night and has since stopping her nap.

My 3rd niece and Lily Belle's baby sister Dani Mae takes Three 30 minute naps a day. She won't sleep longer then that and if you try and keep her awake longer then she will be crabby and won't sleep at all lol.

It may be a strong rumor. I myself do not know any thing about it..

By the way who informed you about it.

    Between two and four.

I'm not even sure how I'd accommodate a nap for a seven-year-old. If my first grader still required a nap after school, I'd be adjusting bed time.

I don't have kids, but I've seen a very wide range for when kids give up naps. I babysat for a 15 month old who if he had even a 30 minute nap during the day he would be up until 10 or 11 or sometimes even later if the nap was longer than 30 minutes. If he didn't get a nap he would be asleep by 8pm and sleep all the way until 8am (sometimes even a little later).

Another child I babysat for didn't give up his nap until he was over 5 years old and went to Kindergarten (he probably would have continued with napping if he could have but he went to daycare after Kindergarten and the Kindergarten kids didn't nap). He was very cranky a lot in the evenings because he was so tired and he started going to bed earlier, like 7pm instead of 8, 8:30pm and he would sleep 13 or more hours a night. When he was napping he’d nap 2 hours still and then sleep 12 hours at night.
