Diabetes help!?

I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have been counting carbs and staying under 100 a day and walking 2 miles. I'm sure there is more I should do, but until I go to the "diabetes management class", I am looking for advice from other diabetics. My A1C is 7.2. Also, can anyone share some of their secrets and recipes with me? Thanks!

You are on teh right track. DIETARY CONROL is the supreme secret, but you ALSO need to incrase the exercise.

As you get better, you WILlw ant to exercise more, but 2 miles a day is a really good start.

There are no secrets, except pure wholesome WILL POWER. Or maybe its WON;T POWER -- I won't eat this, I won't eat that.

There are ove a dozen Diabetic Cooking magazine that have WONDERFUL recipes. Your doctor probably has them sent to his office, and I can find them at the Prescription Counter at drugstores. Don;t forget to look omn;line at places like Food NEtorlk or www,allrecipes.com.

I simply cut out all the grain, soft sweet fruits, root veggies, and legumes from our diet. We have bacon or sausage and eggs for breakfast, everyone else has a short stack of my pancakes on sundays! I have maybe 1/2 a pancake or a dollar sized one.

we eat a small piece of meat with a salad for lunch and dinner! Meat cooked any way I think up!

I do plan in a cheat treat other than the small pancake weekly. Endo said we cannot be expected to stick to strict diet when everyone else is eating a lucious chocolate cake, so have have half a serving!! I don't do that every week, just when I have a chocolate fit!

I don't walk 2 miles or maybe I do! I walk for an hour twice a day when the weather is nice, but if you have big box store or mall handy use it on nasty days. an hour as fast as I can walk. I don't worry about the milage! Some days that might be 2 trips around the block for you but is all I can do that day.

Remember housework and gardening count too in your exercise!! If you are up and moving that is exercise! Sitting and spinning or crocheting, my favorite hobbies, is not exactly high exercise. And with a daughter and a granddaughter here trying to help me, that is what I usually get done. "Here, Nana, Let me do that for you! Sit down!" and they take the bed sheets to the clothes line to hang! I used to enjoy doing that and folding them off! Oh well! More time for dance:
