Can anyone answer my wedding question?

What is a wedding gift registry, and how does it work if you are going to be the guest?

A registry is a guide/list of items the couple would like/need as a gift.

You would just need to know what store(s) they're listed at and pull up their registry on that stores website and you can shop from there (it can be shipped to your home and you take it with you or it can be shipped to theirs) or if you shop in person you need to print a registry from the kiosk in the store and then when you select a gift to buy, gift the list to the cashier and they will take that gift off the list after it's purchased.

A wedding isn't actually a gift giving event, so you're not obligated to give a gift. However, most people choose to give the couple a gift to wish them well.

Since a wedding isn't a gift giving event itself, registry information isn't included in wedding invitations (such as where they're registered). Common places couples register at are Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Kohl's, Nordstrom's, Younkers/Bonton, etc.

Its a website where the couple can register guests they believe are sex offenders and experience the gift of saving lives. Wtf how can you not figure out what "wedding gift registry" means?

    Steve's got the right idea.

    A registry lists

the things that the bride would like as wedding gifts

the things that have not yet been purchased

This allows the wedding guests to

    - avoid two guests buying the same item as a gift

    - avoid a guest buying an item that does not "match" the decor desired by the bride

both of which things can be *embarrassing for the gift-buyer*.

So: the registry aids both the married couple *and* the gift-buyers in suggesting desirable gifts while eliminating duplicate gift-buying.

You ask some one if the bride is registered anyplace. The answer may be "Nordstroms." So you go to Nordstroms and give them the bride's name. They will show you a list of things the bride would like. The list will also show things that she wanted but that others have already bought. You might get her a single place setting of the china pattern that she has selected.
