My rescue dog has been diagnosed with Cushings disease as in now on strong medication. I have found a herbal alternative treatment.?

    While herbs can contain medically active ingredients they usually have it in an unknown amount and together with a lot of other chemicals which might or might not do something.

    I would definitely discuss it with your vet before you change any medication.

    For a serious disease like Cushings I would not do without drugs which have well established research supporting their use, guarantees of purity and amount. If you can get that with herbs, sure you can use them, but make sure you act with more information than anecdotes. There are important reasons that medical studies use placebos whenever possible.

    No you haven't. There is no substitute for the prescription medication. Your dog will need to be on the Cushings medication for the rest of his/her life.

    Do not change your treatment without consulting the vet. There are vets that specialize in alternative medicine for pets.

    If you treating your dog is anything like this questions, you better go to a vet and follow his instructions explicitly.

    So if you have actually found an herbal therapy that is safe and effective, then go for it. Most natural remedies are either unsafe or ineffective tho.
