My anesthesiologist is starting me on an analgesic called Exalgo 12mg. Does anyone have any experience with this drug?

It's extended release hydromorphone, a heavy duty pain medicine. (you can compare it Oxycontin if you're not familiar with)
hydromorphone comes in 2mg, 4mg, and 8mg immediate release, so 12mg is a higher dose, but released more slowly
over time, that way you don't have to take it as often per day. This can cause drowsiness and constipation and should not be taken with alcohol.
