Can being overweight affect vision?

I have a number of friends who have gained a lot of weight since finishing high school, and most of them now wear glasses, and they never did in the past.

Can it be true that being overweight can link to issues with vision or the need to wear glasses?

    In ways...

Time as the variable itself can effect vision, causing a need for glasses. There's also the Tokyo effect, where all the school kids stay inside reading so much, they wear some of the most glasses worldwide. Suddenly putting on weight might well cause someone to become a shut-in, limiting and weakening the eyes over time.

Not just being overweight but if a person is very overweight then if can affect their whole body with things like type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure etc which in turn over the years can affect the eyes but in general it is usually constant use of computer and mobile phone usage that affects the eyes.
