Yes. Swimming is gentler on your body, and it is often recommended for people with arthritis, back problems, or weight problems.

Butterfly is one of the best exercises for weight loss. It targets the upper half and helps in building power and strength. Your arms need to move forward simultaneously. All the fat will soon be lost and your body will get shaped in no time. You must take rest accordingly.

Swimming is probably the best total body workout there is. It's no impact but lots of resistance, so your body has to work a lot harder than out of the water. It's great for overall fitness as well as fat loss, and a lot of people use water workouts (not just swimming but other exercises in the water) to rehab from injury or surgery, without having to put weight on the recovering parts of their body.

Swimming can be a great option. It engages all your muscles and is kind to your joints. BUT, weight loss is 80% diet. If you do a lap-swimming workout routine [check out this plan http://www.mensfitness.com/training/swim-it] you will improve your stamina, strength and body composition, but the calories you burn are not sufficient to cause more than a pound of fat loss a week -- and that is only if you don't increase your caloric intake. Combining any workout with a sensible eating plan that reduces calories and carbs will result in fat loss.

The body-shaping benefits of swimming workouts are the result of a perfect storm of calorie burn and muscle recruitment. An easy swim burns around 500 calories an hour, while a vigorous effort can torch almost 700.

The irony is that while swimming makes you lean and mean, it's also kind to your body. Thats why many people with back, muscle and bone injury take up swimming as a substitute to their normal training regime.
