Here in my state within the Queen's Commonwealth of Australia ( which is nsw, australia ) - there's no laws prohibiting drivers but, as shoes have shoelaces which have the chance to get stuck around the pedals and thongs could also cause a hazard so no doubt it's illegal to operate a motor vehicle while wearing thongs but, wearing shoes is the better option as there's more stability : however, driving bear foot cause also cause an injury so I can only recommend you wear suitable footwear especially if you are required to exit the vehicle unexpectedly.

True. I am not aware of any states that have a specific law for driving barefoot, and I do know it is legal in my state.
