do you feel as though you need to read a story run right to the end? because sometimes theres so many issues and it can cost too much money to read them all

When I started in the 80s, I went an bought back issues like an addict. I regret it. Alot of comics stories are poor. You should use forums like this or ask people in comic shops to recommend particularly good story arcs. As you do, you'll find you don't like some of the recommendations and do like others. Learn which authors produced the stuff you like and start finding other words my them.
The internet makes this SOOOO much easier on you than it would have been for me.
I would also suggest TPBs over issues. They're not cheap exactly, but they're cheapER.
