Are they a bad person or do they need help?
So someone I know likes to pretend to have certain illnesses not for any type of gain other than so someone will talk to them. They don't have any friends and their family has never really shown them affection from what I can see. Is there more going on that needs to be talked about? Are there any disorders related to this?

Sounds like a psychosomatic problem if the illness is not real. But it may stem from being depressed about their alienation from others. When people don't get the love and nurturing from the people in their life, they can develop ways to get it that are not healthy. Sounds like being ill has helped them get the attention they crave,

This person definitely just needs some help. Hang out with them and possibly suggest therapy
