buying car, mis-match VIN info, any advice?
is this a scam. FRAUD, or sloppy paperwork
car is in great condition for year, seriously low mileage, single owner
car fax shows "vin # associated with plate"
other sites, show nothing for all VIN numbers, but shows results for:
driver/owner,
License plate,
dodge car (2 different VIN numbers, both legal and physical, by 1-character)
CAR (on 2013 car VIN marked for 2014)
License plate (VIN is different by 1-character letter from car registration, "0 & D")
when researching the 4 possible VIN combinations they all fall back to same car
"40, forty" on registration, (4 = 2014) car make/model/line
"4D" on License Plate, marks same make/model/line
"30, thirty" corrected for year, shows same model/model/line
"3D" corrected for year, different make "Chrysler", same model, missing line (Chrysler/jeep/dodge)
ALL 4 vin numbers show different mechanic reports, all in same region, 2 owners.
1 VIN report shows relative as owner (i did backgound check on both persons)

Walk away from this car. This could end up being a nightmare for you if you buy it. Not worth the chance. There are other cars you can buy that do not have such a problem. You would be a fool to buy this car at any price. Something is wrong and you know it.

Carfax is beyond worthless. Their data on that car is so messed up they don't even have an idea what it is. That is very common (although not to the point they acknowledge the VIN does not track through their system). My daughter had an Accord that Carfax said was originally a fleet car, but the DMV and the contract the seller gave us proved the private seller was the only owner.
It is a scam, all right: Carfax.

Forget "CarFax". They are WRONG about half the time, and not 100% accurate the other half. The ONLY VIN that matters is when the one you find on the vehicle actually matches the one you find on the LEGAL title to the car.
