If atheism is simply not believing in God, why do atheists spend so much time and effort evangelizing for atheism?

I don't believe in space aliens, but I don't go out of my way to attack believers in extraterrestrials.

Atheism is the view that God does not exist and about 10% of the world population claim to be atheists. Theists hold the view that God does exist. So why would theists spend as much time and effort as they do (here on R&S for example) trying to discredit theism and make a case for atheism?

Well, at the risk of splitting hairs, I suggest that it is only anti-theists who do that - atheists who want to silence theists. Anti-theism is a broad term referring to active, intentional opposition to belief in God or religion in general. The word describes a person’s intent and approach more so than his beliefs, as a person might well hold to an agnostic or atheistic worldview but not be considered an anti-theist. Anti-theism holds that theism is harmful and should be countered. As with other political or social philosophies, there are varying levels of anti-theism and numerous applications.

I found an article that discusses anti-theism (see the link below). It will probably elicit hows of outrage but so what? Was it a line in Shakespeare that went: "Methinks thou dos't protest too much"?

"I don't believe in space aliens, but I don't go out of my way to attack believers in extraterrestrials."

Maybe that's because believers in ETs are not trying to pass legislation to foist their erroneous beliefs on your children at school. Maybe because believers in ETs aren't promoting homophobia in the name of some fictional intergalactic overlord. Maybe because there hasn't been a dystopian UFOcracy like the dystopian ecclesiocracy we know as the dark ages.

If believers in ETs were as bigoted, homophobic, judgmental, self-righteous and meddling in society and politics the way many theists are, then maybe you'd be an avid anti-ETist campaigning against the wiles and abuses of ufology.

    Apples & oranges..

You speak of atheists as if they are mentally stable.

Most atheists have so much hate for Christians & the

    Holy Trinity that it has driven them completely insane;

God & Christians is all these psychopaths think about.

Because Christians want everyone to think like them. They try to have legislation passed based on their delusions and they destory education with their intelligent design nonsense. So that's why I'm adamant about atheism. If Christians would just stay in church and leave people alone, I wouldn't care as much.

Evangelizing for Atheism = Understanding that "christians" will die waiting ... just like they always do.

    It's actually quite fun !!!

    Oh??

How often do those believers in ET's knock on your door to try to give you their news, and how often do they use their belief to force a copy of their book of alien mythology into our public buildings, and schools, and are there myths about those aliens being forced into our classrooms and are those beliefs used to justify major political decisions?

I'm not evangelizing for atheism, slick. I am evangelizing for separation of church and state, and I couldn't care less what skyfairy you want to believe in, or what foods you think your imaginary friend doesn't allow you or whatever. Go for it. Just don;t try to push it on me, and don't try to force it into our public places, and we're good.

Well, if only believers in space aliens were allowed to stand for elections and only believers in space aliens started evangelizing aggressively, you might change your mind...

I'll bet you would if ET believers were running your country, passing stupid laws that directly affected you, right, dumbass?
