When it comes to blaming people of white European ancestry for slavery, why do people of Spanish and Portuguese ancestry get a pass?

Update:

They were the worst

Cause Americans are racist and Europeans don't bang on about slavery cause they were responsible for ending it internationally.

The only ones to blame for slavery are Africans themselves.

Spain and Portugal are both European countries. Consult an atlas. They're skin tends to be a bit darker, but they're just as European as any Swede or Frenchman.

Portugal didn't get a free pass when they recently lost ownership of Macao. If it weren't for Portuguese efforts in the 15th century from Henry the navigator to Magellan, the world would be a much more primitive place. The world ought to show more gratitude. Spain deserves the second most credit. No other country in the world could have produced the ambition of the conquistadors or the blind faith of Columbus to explore in a direction that was previously unfathomable.

As for slavery, why not blame the arabs? The Spanish and Portuguese weren't significantly more technologically advanced than the arabs. Thus, there moral burden is not significantly greater.

I don't know about the slavery issue... but some people in south america (Chile, Brazil, Colombia, etc) don't forget what Spain and Portugal did to local indians during the colonization period.

Now, if I'm not mistaken... the portuguese and spaniards were nicer to black slaves in comparison to British colonists... If I'm not mistaken, slavery in south america was abolished way before than in north america.
