If a house fly is flying around the room at night and I switch off the only light, what becomes of the fly?
Answer 1 makes good sense assuming "sleep" (or blindness) as we know it makes fly sense to flies. However - and assuming it does - what fate awaits the fly who nods off sightless suddenly in mid flight with no "Wall Ahead" warning sign or multi-facet/compound-eye beacon to a safe landing spot. Is it "up and stick to the ceiling or lamp"? Or free fall to the floor wherever that is? Said another way, maybe, is there a terminal fall velocity for diptera that makes all crash landings safe?

use 2 hands on the fly when he roosts on a surface with room to swipe, one hand from either side, his eyes get crossed,he freezes b/c both sides are blocked, like deer in the headlights, doesen;t know which way to spring off,
smack your hands together quick,he;s dead,

It depends on whether your house is in a forest: whether the Pope is nearby and in need of a bear; and there's some poop around somewhere where a tree has fallen over.

It will likely fly towards the next brightest light source, such as your TV screen, looking for a way out of an unfamiliar surrounding.

It should sleep. The light was giving it a false sense of daylight.
