How much longer until we admit that socially-expected and enforced abstinence until marriage, and monogamy within, is the best arrangement?
"Free love" was this amazing concept in the 60's but when we find out that some people become a little too "free", it causes a lot of harm. So now we're trying to figure out all of these rules about consent and when consent can be given and what constitutes a rape vs. what is sexual assault.
Seems like a lot of hysteria, and we're fast heading to a place where all of the "rules" are untenable to keep straight and it would be more beneficial to just admit that the old "wait until marriage, keep it in marriage" idea actually had a lot of merit and offers a lot of simplicity and stability.

So you don't think a husband can rape his wife! Sorry, concept like consent still apply in marriage.

The Pope and his cronies have been at that for a thousand years.
IF it had worked, there would be no income to buy his Gold lame robes and silver slippers.
That practice is intended to fail, thus the enrichment of the Church.
"Free Love", is the Natural and intended (if you believe in G*D or not) way of life. The proof is the study of Aboriginal peoples, and the natural conduct of all human civilizations.
The constrained Demands of Religion are the Church, merely Using Power being used for the expression of Power. (aka "1984" and "Brave New World")

False premise. You are no more entitled to sex with your wife than you are with the check out girl at the super market. There is a thing called marital rape.

The problem is men who are pushy and who do not know how to treat a woman. There is an art to seducing a woman and pleasing her, so that she comes back for more, and does not come back for a lawyer.
I will continue to remain single and keep enjoying the sweet pleasures of life.

"How much longer until we admit that socially-expected and enforced abstinence until marriage, and monogamy within, is the best arrangement?"
If we use history as a measure, it will be when Western society collapses at the hands of the next cohesive society that DOES enforced abstinence until marriage. Presumably, the way things are going, Western civilization will become a Muslim society in the next century. Muslims practice this traditional and cohesive arrangement. The West values individuality over anything else, including its future.
No denying this. Once a culture goes ultra Liberal with no ability to turn back, it gets taken over. Like Athens, like Rome. The people become soft and lose their ability to defend any original idea of itself.

Rape and sexual assault can occur within marriage. Saying "I do" is not equivalent to saying "I consent to sex whenever and wherever."
Consent is not that complicated. If someone says they want a cup of tea, you don't force them to drink it if they change their mind. Even if your feelings are hurt that you went to all that effort to make tea. Even if you really wanted to share a cup of tea, and it's been months! Likewise, if you both want to share a cup with a special friend, you don't need a special tea-drinking contract drafted up.

Why do white people love social austerity?
If your ideals worked, it'd be great. But they don't.

Yes, I agree. That is the Biblical standard. A way of protecting the family. One of the ten commandments tells us not to commit adultery. I wonder why they call it "adult-ery" as if once one is an adult, they are expected to freely engage in whatever sexual conduct they want. Well, they probably dud, once they were out from under their parents' rule. These days even teenagers act like the whole purpose of dating is to "hook-up" and not to find a life mate. Unless parents teach their kids a higher moral standard, the sex outside of marriage practice isn't going to get any better.
