I want to know the precise literary term used in such a sentence as: "It is impossible for me to describe how the storm tossed the boat.."?

"It is impossible for me to describe how the storm tossed the boat like a ragdoll abused by a dog. It is superfluous for me to tell you how the waters filled the boat as the rain floods a basin, and it is redundant for me to explain how the lightning flashed across the sky as firebugs flicker at night." I.e. describing the very thing you assert to be indescribable.

Bookbinder, I'm looking for something more specific than a simile. There were similes in the above piece (i.e. "like a ragdoll abused by a dog") but you need to read my entire question over again.

    It is probably a simile.
