They morphed into Trump's devoted followers. The truth is the Tea Party wasn't concerned with taxes, it was actually about pushing the conservative agenda

Yeah I totally support Trump but I totally opposed his signing the last budget packed full of pork and deficit spending.
But he did say he would not sign another budget like that.
So I will give him one more chance to balance the budget.
Now if he signs another pork filled budget with no attempt to reduce the deficit I will be very disappointed.
Where were you Smitty when obama was deficit spending over a $TRILLION a year?
At least Trump had a budget,,,unlike obama that ran on a continuing resolution for 7 years with an extra $TRILLION in union payback every year.

If you look, it's CONGRESS who is spending the money, not the Prez. That's one of the Founding Father's checks-&-balances: Congress has to START the spending process, not the Prez.

A trillion isn’t that bad, not compared to Obama. Just shut up.

The Tea Party was an astroturf movement--fake grass roots. The GOP built it with Koch bux to win one election, in 1994, then they stopped funding it and having huge rallies, and it became just a meme.
Ronald Reagan set the tone for Republicans today. Reagan railed against the debt for 8 years, then he got nominated for president and came up with the idea that the debt didn't matter at all. He TRIPLED the debt in two terms. And Republicans were so happy with him they never even noticed! GW Bush doubled it again (not counting the wars!) and Tea Partiers LOVED him. Now Trump is trying to do the same thing.
GHW Bush, OTOH, went along with a tiny tax increase for the richest Americans (the ones who'd gotten all the tax cuts), and it cost him a second term.
