What type of RAM is upgradable in current gen Alienware laptops?

I’m looking to upgrade my RAM in the Alienware 17 R5, but I want to make sure whatever I buy will be compatible with Alienware’s motherboard? I will either get Crucial or HyperX. Will these be okay?

Here's what I'd do. Go to Crucial and let them run their computer analysis. After it runs it will give you the exact part number of the RAM type needed for you computer. Then write down that RAM part number and go an amazon.com and shop around for the best prices. I always use Crucial to get that info and I never purchase from them because their prices are way to expensive. Hope this helps.

Go to the crucial website and run the memory scanner tool, it will analyse your system, tell you how much, and what type of memory you have, and the maximum allowable

go to the crucial website. input your exact model number (from label on back). they'll tell you what ram is compatible with your machine and how many of what size it can handle.

after you know what to get, try Amazon, Newegg, and other online retails to see if they're significantly cheaper than Crucial
