Does anybody learn history these days?

I just saw a question asking why the UK/US didn't use the Channel Tunnel during WW2!

It was closed for the duration, the same as the ferry services.

Because the Channel Tunnel did NOT exist during WW2

I was surprised to discover 80% off the students in my college classes were not aware the Russian language uses a different alphabet (when covering the Soviet space program I would write names in Latin and Cyrillic)

Could it have been someone trolling, there is a little bit of that going on in this forum.

They learn tiny chunks of history, unrelated to each other.

In the UK children learn about the Tudors, and the Romans, and the Egyptians, and Nazi Germany. No attempt is ever made to show what order they came in, nor that any thing of any importance might conceivably have happened BETWEEN those periods.

No wonder so many children are pig ignorant, and grow up to become ignorant adults.

A lot of people just don't have a grasp of history or a concept of timelines.

It's like seeing a payphone near a Revolutionary War or Civil War battlefield and asking, "Do you think the soldiers might have used that phone to call home?" (Of course these days payphones are pretty much gone), or Columbus using Google Earth and GPS.

    Seemingly not.
