Ask the first person, if what the second person said about her, was true - did she say these things? And if true, why? PS... Are these things true or not?

I would suspect what the second person's motive was in telling me these nasty things. I would wonder if, indeed, my friend had actually said these things. I would go to that friend and say that I'd heard that he/she had said ABCD about me and was it actually true?

Don't attack that the friend who talked bad about you but just keep in mind that they talked behind your back and that you should be aware and avoid hanging out with that person too much. Just ignore it but if you really want to, then you can privately talk to that person one-on-one to get things straight but don't say that your friend repeated it to you but if they ask, say that you "overheard."

Mark Twain said that it takes your enemy and your friend, together, to really hurt you. The one to slander you, and the other to get the news to you.

What you should do is reevaluate who you consider to be your friends.
